I realized the other day that I’ve never properly introduced myself on my blog! Sure, you can read my about page, see 50 things that make me happy, or most of you probably know me from Twitter, but those are all just small pieces that make up who I am. When I saw this book blog newbie tag on The Book Mermaid I knew it was the perfect opportunity to share with y’all more about what makes me a blogger and reader!
Why did you start this blog?
I’ve been reviewing books on Goodreads for six years and talking about them on Twitter for probably about four years now, so really taking the plunge into blogging was long overdue! Writing is something I really enjoy, so having my own space where I can share my thoughts about one of my favorite things in the world (books, obviously) is a dream come true.
What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?
Well, I’ve already brought y’all the Grey’s Anatomy book tag! Hopefully I’ll be able to come up with some more original tag ideas, and I really love writing discussion posts. So far you can read Musings and Ramblings on Vampire Academy and authors who never let you down!
What are you most excited for about this new blog?
Honestly I’m most excited about finding new people to connect with and talk books. Bloggers do so much for the publishing industry, and there are so many books I never would have discovered if it weren’t for other bloggers talking about them! I really hope I’m able to help somebody else find their new favorite read.
What challenges do you think come with starting a blog that will be the hardest to overcome?
Definitely creating original content. I can write reviews and Top Ten Tuesday posts all day and night, but I want to make sure I’m bringing some originality to the community too. I’m not the most creative person though, so coming up with new ideas isn’t the easiest for me.
Why do you love reading?
I have a hard time watching movies because I just can’t sit still and focused long enough, but for whatever reason that problem isn’t there when it comes to books. I love connecting with the characters and and while I enjoy finding pieces of myself in their stories, I also love learning about different walks of life and cultures. Reading is an escape. People may let you down, but books never will.
What book or series got you into reading?
This is hard because there are three series I vividly remember reading a ton of when I was younger, but I don’t know which came first. I guess I’ll just credit all of them with opening the gates into the magical land of reading for me. The Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew, and American Girl were all my favorites. I’ve managed to hold onto all of my Boxcar Children books and I hope someday my son will enjoy them too.
When did you start reading?
I know this probably isn’t the answer anybody was looking for, but honestly I’ve been reading my entire life. Even before I technically knew how to read I memorized my favorite storybook so it would really look like I was reading. There’s not a time in my life where I remember not carrying a book around.
Where do you read?
Most of my reading is done on my couch. It’s the most comfortable place I’ve found. I love curling up on the left side with a big fluffy blanket, my dog, either a Dr Pepper or cup of coffee, and my book.
What kinds of books do you like to read?
Primarily I read middle grade and young adult contemporary and realistic fiction that is heartfelt and emotional while focusing on themes regarding mental health, family, and LGBTQIA+ stories. I also really love graphic novels of any genre and poetry. My least favorite things to read are historical fiction and fantasy.
What questions would you ask your favorite authors?
I always wonder what author’s writing rituals are and what their desks look like.
I hope you all enjoyed getting a more personal look into the blogging and reading side of me! If you’re a blogger I’d love to learn what prompted you to start a blog and if you’re a reader I’d love hearing about what books you remember sparking your reading obsession!
I’m tagging my friend Lil from The Kitten’s Keyboard to do the tag next, but anybody is welcome to do it! If you do, please link me in your post so I can come see your answers!

I also loved The Boxcar Kids when I was younger, it is probably the series that originally got me into reading forever ago!

It was seriously so good! I loved how each of the four kids had such distinct personalities.

Reviews are so hard to stay on top of! I try to write them as soon as I finish the book, because if I don’t I forget everything I wanted to talk about. But I don’t always have the time for that.
