Hi, friends! It’s time for another Friday Jams, and this week it includes my first music review!
This is a recap of the three artists I listened to the most over the past week and which of their songs was my favorite. I’ll be pulling all of my data from last.fm, a website that tracks every song you listen to and compiles all the data to give you different stats on your listening trends.
This past week (March 29 through April 4) I listened to a total of 1,285 songs, 117 more than last week. I actually ended up beating my record for the most scrobbles in a week by 52, which I’m pretty excited about! I tried really hard to beat it last week, but it just didn’t happen. There’s pretty much been music playing continuously in my apartment the past couple of weeks.
If Julia Michaels put her lyric “I just wanna be fucking happy” on a t-shirt, I would buy it.
I’ve been really loving Billie Eilish’s new album and it’s ended up on repeat numerous times.
THEY ARE ALREADY BLESSING US WITH ANOTHER NEW SONG AND IT’S SUCH A BOP I CAN’T HANDLE THIS I’M SO HAPPY 2019 REALLY IS GOING TO BE OKAY
This week’s artist, McFly, was suggested by Britt from Geronimo Reads!
I started with McFly’s first album, Room On The 3rd Floor, and was hit in the face with Beach Boy vibes. It was released in 2004, so being reminded of The Beach Boys definitely wasn’t what I was expecting, but I can’t say I hated it. Over the course of the week, I listened to each of their five albums at least once. None of it was my favorite, but they do seem like a band pre-teen me would have been VERY into, so I’m a little salty that I’m only just now discovering them.
One of the things I always look for in a music artist is how well I can read while listening to them. Some music just has so much going on that it can be hard for me to focus on my book if it’s on in the background, and I thought I would have this problem with McFly, but I didn’t. Their songs blended into the background enough to where they weren’t distracting, but not so much that I didn’t fully realize that music was playing.
Generally when trying a new artist I like to listen to their albums in chronological order. As I progressed through their discography, I didn’t notice a big change in their sound, but I was able to tell that they were maturing. The Beach Boys vibes never completely left and that’s okay because as time went on it seemed like there was more of them in the songs.
Overall, I give McFly a solid 3/5. They’ll probably never be a band that I actively listen to all the time, but I have a feeling they’ll get played every now and then for fun. I’m definitely glad Britt recommended them to me!
Are you a fan of McFly or do you have any music suggestions for me? Let me know in the comments!
