When I saw this tag on Ayushi’s My Bookish Blog I thought it was so fun and the questions were unique, so of course I wanted to do it! Before starting my post I actually spent probably about ten minutes tracking down the creator of this tag. I started to get worried I wasn’t going to be able to figure it out, but I finally did (super sleuthing for the win!).
Thanks to Charly Reynhorse for this tag’s creation! Please, y’all, remember to always tag the creators any time you do something like this. Charly hasn’t been active on YouTube for a couple of years, but she still deserves credit for her original content.
Okay, thanks for listening to my little tangent. On to the questions!
How many books do you usually read at once?
Probably about 95% of the time I only read one. Sometimes though whenever I’m driving back and forth to the city, which takes several hours, for my son’s doctors appointments I’ll start an audiobook in the car that’s different from the physical book I’m reading. Or if I’m reading something on my Kindle and it dies then I’ll start a physical book. But those situations are rare.
How do you decide when to switch between multiple reads?
Which one I read really depends on the situation. If I’m driving then I’ll obviously be listening to an audiobook as opposed to reading a physical book. But if it’s completely my choice then I’ll pick up whichever one I started read first and finish it before finishing my second read.
Do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?
I have a toddler and a cat which means my bookmarks are always getting lost. So, yes, all the time. I think I’ve used three different bookmarks with my last two reads.
Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?
Confession time: I’m the worst at just tossing my book wherever I feel like it. I have a book sleeve that I absolutely love, and the majority of the time my book goes inside it, but then I either toss it onto the couch, the ottoman, the floor, wherever. Lately I’ve started putting it high on one of my shelves frequently though, because my son has become obsessed with my book sleeve and loves dumping my book out so he can play with it.
What time of day do you read the most?
Definitely late at night after everybody has gone to bed. This was my worst bookish habit in The A to Z Book Tag!
How long do you typically read in one session?
If I know that I’ll only have 15 minutes to read then I won’t even bother, so probably 2 or 3 hours? It really just depends on what I have going on. Even when everybody has gone to bed I still have my son’s feeding pump to fill and medicines to give to him, so there are interruptions. I also get distracted by Twitter a lot. It’s easier to say that I generally read half a book to a full book in one session as opposed to trying to put a time to it.
Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket off?
Unless it’s a library book where the dust jacket is attached, I always take it off. I hate how they always slide around when I’m trying to hold onto the book. Plus it keeps them looking nicer if I set them aside.
What position do you mainly use to read?
Most of my reading is done on my couch, and I usually switch between sitting up while leaning against the side and laying straight on the couch with my back leaning on the side.
Do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?
In high school I literally never left the house without my book. Now, though, I have a toddler to try and wrangle which makes having a book just one extra thing I have to keep track of. If I’m ever going somewhere overnight or without my son then I’ll take it with me though.
How often do you update your Goodreads reading progress?
I’ve been slacking on this lately, but generally I mark a book as currently reading once I’ve gotten about 50 pages in, every time I make progress in it, then immediately after finishing it. I seem to have bad luck if I mark a book as currently reading as soon as I pick it up without reading a bit first. Every time I do this I end up hating the book and DNFing it then feeling ridiculous because I just said I was currently reading it thirty minutes earlier. It’s a bit of a superstition thing I guess.
I’m tagging Laura from Laura Herondale’s Book Blog and Shon from Books and Bugs to do the tag next! And if you read this and think it would be fun to do (spoiler alert: it was for me) then I encourage you to do it as well! And, before you go, I’d love to know how many books you typically read at one time, so let me know in the comments!
