The booths look like car garages but contain wooden benches for customers who prefer to have sex outside of their cars. Now the wooden structures give them a safe place to work away from the centre of the city and are fitted with an alarm so the prostitutes can contact the police if they need to.
Drivers β who must be alone in their vehicle β enter along a marked route while women wait in shelters along the roadside. Once a woman has been selected and a price has been agreed, they drive together to one of the booths. The legal areas have lowered the amount of violent attacks on sex workers as well as cut down on illegal trafficking of prostitutes, council officials said.
